Genuine self practice is based on trusting and acessing the intrinsic wisdom of the body. This depends on two indispensable factors: a deep intimacy with postural possibiliities, and a profound, accurate sensitivity to the language of the body. This retreat will expose you to over 150 postures, all presented  to reveal and express the dynamics of integrity through which the wisdom of the body functions, while cultivating a deep sensitivity to sensation through which the wisdom of the body speaks. It will provide  a sound and workable basis for developing  self practice safely, effectively and rewardingly.

There will be two classes each day, except the first and last days which wil have one class each. The morning classes, taught by Godfri, will be 4.5 hours long with two pranayama and one meditation session. The evening classes, taught by Olivia, will be 2.5 hours long. (40 hours tuition) You will be presented with 4 practice sequences upon which to base your ongoing selfpractice. They will be supported by workshops clarifying the dynamics of integrity, the art of movement and the bandhas.

The early pranayama session will include instruction in bandha based pranayama practices. These practices simultaneoulsy develop and release the deep structural muscles of the spine. At the same time they develop respiratory integrity and freedom, while cultivating a deep intimacy with the energetic subtleties of awareness. They provide the perfect preparation for posture practice based on the cultivating the inherent integrity of the body.

The later pranayama session will include using breath awareness as an invitation to deep intimacy with perception and awareness. It will be based on the 12 gates of Svaradhyaya, which invite deep disidentification with the breath and from the breather, while releasing it from all unconscious imposition. It will be followed by the subtle instruction unique to the lost art of meditation.

All the classes are given within the fertilising context of patanjali’s ashtanga yoga, and link yoga postures together into a vinyasa flow of dynamic yoga practice ending with stillness in savasana and sitting, thereby balancing the 'ha' and 'tha' elements of traditional hatha yoga. All morning classes include guided pranayama and meditation.
